The victory was short lived as City Council pushed through the Redekop development. The motion was largely ignored by Council.

A small victory for our community. The Surrey City Council has voted unanimously to stall out the Redekop development at 5750 Panorama Drive. The motion reads:
That "Surrey Official Community Plan Bylaw, 2013, No. 18020, Amendment Bylaw, 2016, No. 18683" be referred back to staff to work with the Applicant, and the Surrey School Board, to determine how the project can be phased and structured to coincide with new school construction in South Newton.

Shock through the community as the Vancouver Sun released details on lead in the water at Sullivan Elementary. "A staff room sink at Sullivan Elementary registered 16.4 parts per billion of lead, which rose to 16.9 after the water was flushed for two minutes. A follow-up test of the sink three days later showed levels had spiked to 62.5 parts per billion, pre-flush, more than six times the federal guidelines."

Please be aware of the long-term affects of lead within your system: "Even low levels of lead in blood have been shown to affect IQ, ability to pay attention, and academic achievement. And effects of lead exposure cannot be corrected. No safe blood level has been identified and all sources of lead exposure for children should be controlled or eliminated." See the remainder of the article for more information.
