Charlene DobieCharlene has been an advocate for public education for more than 30 years. As a parent of two Surrey school district graduates, she has had plenty of experience working to improve public education in the city. She was an engaged PAC member and continues to be an active member of Canadian Parents for French.
From 2011 to 2014, Charlene had the privilege to serve as a Surrey school Trustee, and she would like to continue that work in the next term, 2018 to 2022. Charlene has more than 20 years experience as an educator. She has worked as an Education Assistant in the public school system for much of her career. Previously she was an Early Childhood Educator. She is passionate about public education and believes it is the foundation of our community. She believes students are the future of our society and that we must give them the opportunity to reach their full potential. Charlene understands that teachers, support staff, and administrators have become much more than educators and we need to provide them with adequate support so that they can do the very best for students and families. As an active member of Surrey Students NOW since its inception, Charlene is very pleased to see the group evolve from education advocates to candidates seeking a position on the Surrey Board of Education. |

Why we are working together.
Cindy and Mary-Em have demonstrated a dedication to public education here in Surrey and beyond. They both currently have children in the Surrey school district and are both hard workers with much knowledge to share. Sonia's demonstrated ability to bring community together will be a definite asset to the Surrey Board of Education. Her work experience as a social worker and counsellor will bring a new ideas and perspectives to the board table.
Surrey First Education may have "60 years experience combined" but my previous experience on the Board demonstrated to me that we need new voices and more voices with current experience in public education. We as Surrey Students NOW can bring fresh, new ideas that are desperately needed to move this Board forward into the 21st century!
